USAT-SE Region Announces Formation of Junior Triathlon Development Series

USAT-SE Region is proud to announce the creation of the 2006 Southeast Junior Triathlon Development Series. This is an exciting opportunity for athletes between the ages of 15 and 19 year old (as of December 31, 2006) to show off their stuff, race against kids their age, win "stages", prizes and awards.

The series consists of six (6) independently-produced, owned and operated, short-course triathlons - referred to as "stages" - taking place between April 22nd and August 26th 2006 within the region. Efforts have been made to locate the highest quality events evenly dispersed across the region to maximize opportunities for participation.

Points will be awarded to Eligible Athletes, 15-19 year old divisions of each stage. Double points will be awarded at the season finale, Stage 6 in Peachtree City, GA. To calculate Series standings, an athletes best four results will be used. When calculating the final standings for the overall series championship, in the event of a tie between two or more athletes, each head-to-head match-up will be reviewed and the winner of the greater number of said match-ups will be recognized as the winner.

More information on this series, the races, and how to win points will be available on the Junior Development section of the USAT-SE website.

New USAT-SE Regional Club Championship Series

In addition to the new junior development series, the USAT-Southeast Region will be creating a club championship series for all USAT sanctioned clubs in the region.

Clubs will compete against each other throughout the season at identified club-series races using a points system. Each club will earn points based on the following three criteria: number of members at a series race, distance traveled to the race, and individual performance of the top ten members in each club.

Winning clubs will receive their awards at a ceremony following the Club Championship race -- Tri-Peachtree City -- on Saturday, August 26. The championship race will earn competing clubs double points.

If your club is not sanctioned with USA Triathlon, please visit www.usatriathlon.org to be eligible. Any club officers interested in more details may contact Matt Bonvicin at matt@vulcantri.com.

USAT-SE Region Announces Formation of Collegiate Triathlon Series

The USAT-Southeast Region would like to announce the creation of a collegiate triathlon series. The purpose of the collegiate triathlon series is to develop collegiate triathlon by providing an opportunity for athletes to race among their peers.

2006 will be a pilot year—a test for the series that we have proposed.

The SE Region is looking forward to a new series to promote the sport amongst college students.

A points-based scoring system will be used to rank both teams and individual athletes over the course of the season. Points are awarded to the first 50 male and female finishers of each race. Team rankings are determined by adding the individual points that each team scores.

Collegiate champions will be crowned at an award ceremony on October 14th following the conclusion of the season at the Hickory Knob Triathlon.

Race directors interested in adding their event to the collegiate series should contact Scott Murr at scott.murr@furman.edu.

Collegiate teams interested in the SE Collegiate Series are required to be officially recognized by their post-secondary institution. Individuals must be full-time students in order to participate in the Collegiate Series. For additional details about the Southeast Region Collegiate Series, visit the Southeast Region website (www.usat-se.org). Questions should be directed to Scott Murr at scott.murr@furman.edu.
